The Sophia Way We are committed to ending homelessness for women in King County

June 2, 2024 : Caring Community Brunch, a special event dedicated to celebrating the resilience and strength of women experiencing homelessness. At the Caring Community Brunch, women will have the opportunity to refresh their wardrobe, receive haircuts and makeovers, and enjoy fun games like bingo. As they indulge in a delicious summer BBQ brunch, they’ll also have the chance to mix and mingle in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere filled with love and laughter. We would love your support in donating items for the wardrobe refresh part of the event. Flyer with more information, including Wish List

Volunteers now welcome into The Sophia Way’s shelters – If you are interested in volunteering, please let us know.

Shelter Needs:

We are serving meals at two shelters – Helen’s Place and Sophia’s Place – and depend on the community to provide the women nourishing meals. Information and SignUp here

Furniture: When women move into housing, they often do not have a lot of belongings and will need help furnishing their new home. We rely on two community partners, Northwest Furniture Bank and St. Vincent de Paul, to help with these items. Please consider donating your furniture to these great organizations.

Friends of Youth

As the populations of King and Snohomish Counties have increased over the past few decades, so too have the numbers of young people grappling with issues such as homelessness, family violence and substance abuse.

Mary’s Place Family Shelter downtown Bellevue

Family centers are 24/7 facilities that provide shelter for moms, dads, and children at night, and resources for housing, employment, and wellness each day. Local service providers join us on site to make it easy for our families to get the services they need. Our newest family center and first on the Eastside, this former hotel has private rooms/baths for 90 families each night.

Hopelink Housing

For families experiencing homelessness, transitional and long-term housing as well as emergency family shelter may be available through Hopelink.

YMCA Host Homes

The Host Homes King County program matches young people ages 12-24 with hosts in the community who can provide the space and opportunity they need to build independent living skills, gain stability, and focus on goal attainment. This program provides much-needed stability for young people who are "almost there", many are already working and close to obtaining housing, and just need a boost. Host families are volunteers from the community who willingly offer a room in their home that provides safe, short-term, and supportive housing to young people who are at imminent risk of becoming homeless. This is a simple and direct way to make an impact on King County's homelessness crisis. Over 1,500 youth and young adults between the ages of 12-25 are homeless or unstably housed within King County. Shelter beds and community resources are limited, leaving the vast majority of young people without access to food or safe housing. Through the Host Homes King County Program you have the opportunity to be a champion for some of these homeless young adults. Host Home FAQ
